Mary Adams
I began my real estate career in 1980 at Hound Ears Club: one of the area's premier private gated golfing communities. There, as theVice President and Director of Real Estate, I learned how to meet the needs of the seasonal and luxury home buyers.
While at Hound Ears, I met my husband Tom, a Boone native and local golf professional. We have two sons: Tom Jr. and Sam.
Tom Jr. resides in Echota in Foscoe, NC, and is a senior at Appalachian State University where he is double majoring in Banking and Finance and Economics. He is President of the ASU Ambassadors and works at Diamond Creek in Banner Elk, NC. Sam attends North Carolina State University in Raleigh where he is a sophomore majoring in English. He recently returned from Sedalia, Colorado, where he spent the summer working on a dude ranch called Lost Valley.
My husband also has a daughter Cheryl and a son Art who live in Boone. Cheryl and her husband Rick have three children: Catherine, Evan, and Ryan. Art is employed at the Boone Golf Course.
All of our children and grandchildren have attended Watauga County elementary schools. Because of my background, I am very familiar with the local schools, churches, and other extracurricular activities important to families’desiring to relocate and make Boone their home. In 1997, I moved to the general real estate market. By doing so, I am now able to work with buyers and sellers in the primary home market as well as the second home buyers and sellers.
I am also able to assist clients with acreage and commercial needs. In addition to North Carolina and Tennessee, I am licensed to list and sell real estate in South Carolina.
I grew up in East Tennessee and spent most of my summers on Watauga Lake, where I worked for my sister and her husband at Lakeshore Resort. Now that my sons are in college, I have expanded my real estate business into Tennessee. You might say," back to my roots."
My family actually lived in what is known as "Old Butler," which is now covered by Watauga Lake. My parents and four of my siblings moved after the TVA transformed their town into a lake. My younger sister, brother, and I were born after the family moved to Elizabethton. I absolutely love that area and the lake. I still have family living there. My sister and her family still own and operate Lakeshore Resort and Marina. My husband's brother Sam Adams is the golf professional at Red Tail Mountain in Mountain City.
One thing I know for sure is that people coming to Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk looking for property have discovered East Tennessee and Watauga Lake. I would like to assist people who are looking to buy and sell in that area.
In 1991, Tom left Hound Ears Club to return to Boone and to become the golf professional at the Boone course. The Adams family has lived in the High Country for several generations. Tom's father Alfred Adams as one of the developers of the Boone Golf Course and served as the President of Northwestern Bank (now Wachovia Bank) for many years and helped bring lots of businesses and jobs to the area.
Daisy Adams, my mother-in-law, is a retired school teacher and was recently inducted into the Rhododendron Society at Appalachian State University, a group devoted to those who serve and educate in the community.
